Virtual Design & Construction (VDC)

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Virtual design and construction, or VDC, is the process of creating and managing a digital 3D rendering of a building during design, through construction, and into operations after the project is complete. Building information modeling, or BIM, are tools and techniques used to create and manage the digital 3D rendering during this whole process. The use of VDC and BIM are fundamental in our approach to the design, plan, and execution of construction projects. Being able to visualize the design using 3D BIM methods in real-time enables clear communication, effective collaboration, and better informed decision making among design partners and clients at every stage of the project lifecycle.

We know that each project is unique and so the degree of implementation of VDC and BIM also needs to be tailored to that particular project. This is based on a number of factors, including project specific risks, budget and schedule constraints, and client needs. By scaling the level of VDC and BIM for each individual project, we are able to maximize the added value that VDC and BIM provides and come up with the best design to fit your project needs. This is why we provide this service for all our projects.

VDC Services

3D Modeling | BIM

Every project starts with a 3D model. 3D BIM methods provide so much more valuable information than traditional 2D CAD drawings. Our staff consists of experienced leaders in BIM methods and practices. If you need additional support with structural, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical 3D models, we have the capabilities to provide add-on services for these additional scopes of work.

VDC Design Coordination

A building design is comprised of many different systems, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, that make the building functional and safe. As building projects become more advanced and complex, it is critical to have an independent party that can seamlessly integrate all those systems by identifying and solving issues early on. The VDC process and BIM tools allow us to have one source for accurate information and visualization. We will work with architects, engineers, and MEP trades to create a BIM execution plan so that every design partner can accurately incorporate their system design. VDC design coordination allows us to make necessary changes before they become bigger issues during construction. This provides both client and design team with better cost management and schedule control. Through this process, our goal is to develop a permit set design that is ready to be constructed.

VDC Construction Coordination

During construction, it is important to continue coordination on the designs all the way through project completion. VDC allows for a more accurate exchange of information between project teams and fabricators. By having a fully coordinated composite model that is clash free, there is more confidence in the accuracy of pre-fabrication shop drawings that are made from this information. This also improves the precision of field layout measurements. Because of this, the workers on-site will have an overall smoother installation process.
